This summer we discovered this interesting insect. It tends to blend in with the bumblebees so it's pretty easy to miss. Maybe we noticed it because we have been on the hunt for hummingbirds and their flight patterns are so similar that it caught our eye. They have a proboscis that is about twice the size of their bodies that they use to extract nectar from flowers. They beat their wings about 70 times per second and can fly about 12 mph.
